!!!EXCITING NEWS!!!
After many requests and much anticipation we are pleased to anounce that we will finally be hosting another of our renowned log cabin courses this April!!!
The woodenways team have been busy the last few years focused on other things so dont miss the opportunity to join us on our first Log Cabin course in years!
Dan Franklin and the Woodenways professional log building team have been running these courses successfully since 1996.
These courses have taught some of the best cabin builders in the counrty and have a reputation far and wide.
Many of our past students have gone on to successfully build their own log cabins and there are now at least ten successful log cabin building companies in the UK whom we have trained.
We have three experienced builders who share up to 8 students. We cover foundation layout, walls, windows, doors, roof structure and settling issues.
The sight is beautiful, particularly at this time of year where we hace accommodation in (rustic) caravans or cabins or you may camp on site
Alternatively there are many B&B's available near by.
An excellent lunch is also included.
£1000
Places are limited.
Please contact Dan to book or for more information.

In the late summer of 2012, John Smith Chairman of Heathcoat Cricket Club contacted Woodenways and asked to look at some outline drawings for a new Cricket Pavilion. Dan Franklin our chief designer looked over the plans and suggested a real timber frame (as an alternative to the initial imported timber designs), built from the timber lying in the woods on Knightshayes Estate. The idea was taken up by the cricket club, the funders (Viridor Waste and the ECB) and land owners The National Trust.
We started extracting trees on Knightshayes Court in November 2012 with the aid of Yabsley Contracting and converted all timbers on site with our Serra Bandmill. All the timber was kindly donated by the National Trust at Knightshayes Court, and was a mixture of windblown chestnut and phytophera diseased larch. Whilst one Woodenways team winched and milled the timber on site the timber frame was being designed, constructed and clad to suit the timber coming out.
Thanks to the amazing team at Heathcoat Cricket Club who worked night and day on the foundations, roof and finishings. The Pavilion was completed before the cricket season of 2013.

Woodenways recently returned from Dunnet Forest in Scotland where, In June this year Dan Franklin lead a log cabin building course. Funded by Calthness Environmental and North Sutherland Funds, we offered locals the chance to learn the skill of log cabin building, using the scribing method. All of the students taking part in the course where new to it and many of them claimed to have never done anything like it before. However everyone showed a high level of skill and with allot f hard work we managed to finish the cabin ahead of schedule. The shelter will be used by the local trust to display information on forest news and artwork by the schools in the area. Project manager Annette Ward states that it will be an invaluable addition to the woodland and hopes that it will be used in many events. The shelter was built using only local materials -windblown spruce from Dunnet, Brittan’s most notherly forest- and is currently being fitted with a living roof of turf.
